Description
Way out of my real area of knowledge here! I inherited this mellophone a few years ago, and there's no one in the family that plays it. It's made by Regent Instrument Co of Cleveland, OH. I *think* it's in E, but I suspect there used to be a different U piece you could use to change it to F, and I'm not sure what's on it, etc. As you can see it's been well played over the years. After figuring out how to hold it, I was able to play the Basin Street Blues on it no sweat (I actually play trumpet and apparently the fingerings are the same). The valves work smoothly, it's structurally sound... no lose joints, fittings, braces, etc. Comes it it's original hard sided case and includes the mouthpiece of course. 'Net says Regent made these from 1936 - 1950 so it's an oldie but a goodie. I found this info about it: "This instrument is built in F and Eb, so it can be used in either band or orchestra. It is designed to give a more melodious tone, very much like that of the French Horn quality. This mellophone is constructed so as to make it easy to hold and play in either marching or seated formation. Ideally suited for beginners in band playing. Good intonation through the entire scale." Regent is a division of F.A. Reynolds band instrument company. That's about all I can tell you off hand. If you have questions I'll try to answer them. Looks somewhat better in person.. the camera flash makes the scratches really stand out. Excellent if you're a beginner, or just want to give it a try! Winner to add $18.00 shipping in the USA. Overseas bidsOK but shipping will be quite a bit more due to size and weight. Payment via Paypal.
