Description
This horn is very special find for the collector and player alike. It is aMS bore New York Bach Stradivarius D trumpet, serial number 8xxx which makes it built in 1947-48. The bell has Model 211 stamped on it and and also has "67" stamped to the right of The NEW YORK stamp on the bell. It has all original parts, which have the SN stamped on them in those days. I did have to replace the two nuts on the third valve catch. Those on the first valve catch are original. All the slides work great and the valves are extremely tight for its age. There are no significant dents on the horn - I had a few removed. All the slides and valves work really well - I replaced the springs and top and bottom pads. The top pads are the modern neoprene from Bach. The originals were cork and really deteriorated. The leadpipe has a slight bit of wave to it and was probably bent at some point. The first valve slide seems to have had custom work done on it so that it can be used for tuning. This makes the horn extremely more playable and it feels great in the hand. Comes with the original case which is a bit rough and doesn't have the original embossed emblem on either the outside or the inside. It does function though. Click here for photo album. If you are truly interested in buying it, I would be glad to take more detailed pics if you want. This was the kind of horn that people used for the baroque literature before the piccolo trumpet came along. It plays a bit like a big picc, has a light sound, but fuller and richer than a piccolo. I have spent some time with it finding the right mouthpiece and playing through a bunch of baroque literature and can honestly say that it is a special playing instrument that rings beautifully and is very even. I'm very tempted to keep it, but with a kid going to college this fall and another just getting her driver's license, I need to sell it. It is not only a collector's item, but I think it would be very useful as a solo/chamber instrument. Cashier's Check or Money Order preferred.
