Description
SHY Musician? That may be a problem if you buy this horn! I reckon there are a few talented horn players that prefer to stay out of the spotlight. (I've never met one, but it's possible.) This horn would certainly create a dilemma for them! How could you hide in the shadows with this lustrous silver-plated Stradivarius cradled in your hands? How could you not draw attention when stage lights gleam from its polished bell, belting out 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy' with notes so clear and perfect that folks in the cheap seats can hear without straining? No, it simply cannot be done. I guess I'll have to limit the sale of this exceptional instrument to folks with some moxie ... chutzpah ... charisma ... pluck ... audaciousness ... and perhaps a bit of cheekiness for good measure. After all, it certainly is not my intention to cause undue stress or (GASP!) stage jitters! It is just that this horn has been spoiled by its previous owner, a fella that redefined chops for your generation. He never met a person that did not become an instant friend, nor did he ever find an instrument that he could not play. Trumpets and cornets were his passion, however, and this Strad traveled the country with him. How do I know? He was my Dad, but everyone else knew him as Stumpy. Check out some of the pictures of Stumpy's career, including stints with Mel Cardwell, Chuck Cabot, Big Dave Cavanaugh's Curbstone Cops, Count Basie, and Johnny Catron. He also played with Glenn Miller, Bix Biederbecke, Paul Whiteman, Bobby Sherwood, Harry James, Les Brown and a host of others. Many of the bands he joined as a teenager, writing and arranging music before he was old enough to vote. For those that are sticklers for detail, this beautiful silver plated instrument features one-piece brass valve casings with top spring action, enclosed spring barrel, pearl finger buttons, brass inside slides, third valve slide fixed finger ring, a third valve slide adjustable stop mechanism, cork waterkey sea, among other goodies. Serial Number ML198** All moving parts (valves, slides, keys) are silky smooth and there is minor wear at points of contact Dad's hands. That's to be expected on a cherished horn, isn't it? Minor ding on lead pipe. Hard case included. To hear samples of his music, visit Stumpy's memorial website Navy Lights Disclaimer: Shy musicians are certainly welcomed to bid! Just consider the possible .. no, the probable consequences of excessive attention, groupies and writers cramp from hours of autograph signing! NOTE: APO/FPO addresses and all SeaBee's get free shipping and gig bag! Insurance is required on all sales, but you pay only actual cost. I'll refund anything over the estimate. My goal is to have pleasantly surprised customers! FREE SHIPPING AND INSURANCE in the USA if you buy before midnight Wednesday, 27 August 2008.
