Description
Old flugels in this layout for sure, but never a Conn and certainly never a ladyface. It all looks genuine by the condtion it was in and hard life it had. I bought it, brought it home, looked up the serial number (225432) and it says 1926 in my serial number list. It has been taken apart, the valves sent to Andersons for a rebuild. Some parts on the body had to be remade, like the back bow was totaly rotten. The bell was a bit dented, but basically sound. I've repaired it as best we can to still keep the engraving clearly visible. All the slides work well. All the bracing was reused. The horn is about 85% of the genuine parts. The rest I have remanufactured. It was originally in that old Conn gold wash finish. I tried to replicate that, but the surface is not good enough for it to look right so its been done in a straightforward silver plate. The Lady on the bell is a full body engraving and she is very very pretty (I've seen a number of Lady face horns and some are just plain UGLY, but this young lady is very pretty) The twirlly bits of engraving go write up the bell to the ferrule. Whats it worth? Hard one that. Its obviously very rare. Its and old lady face Conn and its now in very good playable condition (for its age). I'm sure that for a old Conn collector this would be a very cherishable item to have, more for the fact that hardly anyone else is likely to have one. On the other hand its not a totally original museum piece, and has had to have a major rebuild in order to save it from extinction! But in my mind its far to rare and unusual to have let it rot and be discarded with the trash. I've put a reserve on it as I think its worth at least that. If you dont, thats fine, dont bid. This instrument HAS to find the right buyer I hope thats where it spends the next ?0 years. Thank you and all the best.
